Ricoh has in its new model scrapped the nickname "Caplio" and call it purely and simply R8. It is equipped with a host of exciting performance, such as 28 mm wide-angle, a 2.7-inch lcd screen with very high resolution. The start is somewhat faster than two seconds.
The auto focus is not very fast, in fact, it is the slowest in the test with a second button to focus. Otherwise, the R8 really fast, the waiting time between exposures is the shortest in the test, it would take less than two seconds before you can take your next picture. ![]() Image stabilizator is doing its job properly and reduces effects of shaking hands noticeably. However, the picture quality is not top class, rather mediocre. The biggest snag with the image quality is noise, which is already noticeable at low levels. Up to ISO 100 prospects are good, but even at ISO 200 colors and details are suffering. At ISO 400 it is already disruptive. Iso 800 very disturbing and ISO 1600 seems redundant to have.
The colors are okay. The sharpness is not at the top with noise reduction and compression that reduces the detail as well as colour. But Ricoh R8 is still a really good camera with great design and plenty of affordable properties. Source: IDG |
