Asus ASUS Eee PC 901

Version 901 of Asus ASUS Eee-series are three inches narrower than the rest in the test. This makes the keyboard extra compact and it can be difficult to type on comfortably for those who have too big hands. At the same time, Asus has chosen a larger battery, making ASUS Eee PC 901 instead a bit thicker and heavier than for example Acer Aspire One or its predecessor.

The reason for the extra large battery is obvious. Six cells and a hectogramme extra battery gives more than twice as long operation time compared to most of the other computers in the test. ASUS Eee PC 901, however, is equipped with the same basic hardware as larger competitors. Like the processor, a gigabyte of memory, like the graphics engine and a screen at 1024 x 800 pixels. What on paper differs from the amount is a 20 gigabyte large solid-state hard drive with flash technology instead of traditional hard drive. It makes your computer use low power and Windows OS starts really quickly.

But something in the design are not quite good. To start with, for the OS to find a USB disk can cause several seconds of total freeze. One thing that pretty slow is loading of pages while surfing the Internet, which suggests that it is the disk that is extra slow in some operations.
