Support the victims in Kenya

| | | |

You´ve probably seen the reports from the crisis in Kenya on CNN or ABC. It´s one of those news from the other side of the world that one see but not really take in and react to. Most of us just make an observation about what´s happening over  there, but we don´t really understand the seriousness behind the reports. It´s far away and their society is very much unlike our own making it difficult for us to identify with the victims. Hold that thought for a while and try to take a step back from your own probs and issues in your every day life on home ground.

The fact is that we are all of us responsible for what´s happening around us as long as we know what´s going on. We might say that we have no power to make a change and passively let go of the guilt. That´s not gonna solve anything. Every one of us can make a change and if we stick together the world might be a better place not just for us within our own culture. We all have a responsibility as individuals to react to and do the best we can to help out when people are in need. Ignoration and denial is just a way to passively support the bad energy in the world.

I saw the news tonight and started thinking to myself; What if the Kenya crisis was really happening in my home town. What if me and my family and dear ones experienced what the families do in Kenya right now. The 4-year old kid walking around alone in the street after just losing its parents; the family father forced to observe his wife and daughters being raped and killed in front of his own eyes; The grandmother losing all of her family from useless killing. It´s horrible and until now all I´ve been thinking of today is how my stocks and savings will stand the US recession. I feel guilty for even worrying about such matters when I´m sitting in front of my big screen LCD watching these horrible and disgusting scenes. The fact is that people all over the world are suffering from violance and abuse and I´m just sitting here complaining about my ridiculously small problems. It puts things in perspective, right? What I mean is NOT that the thought of those having it worse will give some relief in you own life. It will for sure but the thought of those having it worse should concern us all and we should NOT just sit comfortly in our sofa and say "oh, that´s sad and poor those people". We are responsible as human beings to make an effort and make or best to help out and give those less fortunate some relief!! So what can we do? We can donate money and aid to charity organizations. We can put pressure on our governments. We can go to the streets and publicly make a protest. We can use our own resources to work for a better world. We can support by consuming goods that come from socially responsabe companies. We can use our power at work to do our best to support the good and prevent the bad from happening. We can do a lot and together we can really make things happen. Let´s not just sit back and ignore. Take it in and react and do your best to make a change! I will..

Visit the Red cross site ICRC for donations. Not just Kenya, a lot of regions are bleeding and people are suffering. We´re responsible!
